Definitely sounds like a rough patch. I am wondering, though, if between the Nyquil and other sleeping meds, you're having a rebound effect, or your tolerance is increasing. It happens to me with Ativan....if I take it too many nights in a row, then stop 'cause I'm feeling O.K. and think I can get to sleep on my own, well, HA! I'm up all night, and I just have to wade through it. 'Sno fun, and I feel for you. I think a lot of people tend to underestimate the power of OTC cold meds, too. They may clear up the boogers, but personally speaking, they can sure do weird things with my head, physically speaking. Perhaps that's where your light effects are coming from.
