Single-meet ideas for Jay

Posted by Medusa on September 4, 2002, at 0:54:57

Jay, are you at all athletic? Every Hash Hound/Harriers (running groups) I've heard of has been a serious singles scene. What about social dance classes? In Boston, there are a lot of swing dance classes of various types, lots of young singles. I don't know if this is on in Canada as well.

Then there are feminism interest groups - show up at a feminist poetry reading, if you actually can get into the substance of the stuff, you'll attract plenty of interest.

Gardening is great, too - you might meet lots of old married biddies and geezers, but people know people ...

And there are emotional health hotlines that need staffers, and the staffers have supervisory group meetings, so if you want to develop listening skills AND meet someone sensitive to psych issues, this is another possibility. (The staffers, not the callers!)

Take care of yourself, and in that, don't condemn yourself for wanting a relationship. What Iso and Heather said about there not being so many people out there is really true - so keep your standards high, have your list of non-negotiables and don't waste your time and energy on women who absolutely don't fit. (But don't give first dates the I'm-ONLY-looking-for-relationship-material-NOT-new-friends talk, either - this comes across as pushy and uncouth and insensitive and all sorts of other very weird stuff.)
