> Hey you guys are doing a wonderful job of supporting one another which should help you both. I'm glad, Kristi, that you weathered the surgery ok. Sar, I can't believe you managed a trip to a bar without the real cigarettes! You should each feel great over every cigarette you decide not to have, but try not to saddle yourself with the "I should never smoke again" mentality. Just try to make alot of small conscious decisions like "I"m not going to smoke right now, but I might in an hour." I took this really long bike ride today - not something I normally (if ever) do. I was riding with a pretty experienced rider. She told me that when you're faced with a long hill, you should pick a spot maybe 20 yards distant and focus on it. When you reached that spot, pick another etc. I think that same mentality is what I'm talking about.

Sar - I was being conservative when I said my husband had been chewing nicorette for aver a year. I really think it's been about 3 at least. Alot of that time he was still smoking and he used the gum to cut down. I'm sure that's not advised. I'm also pretty sure he never bothered to listen to the tape so he just chews it like any other piece of gum. I'm convinced his nicotine addiction is worse because he usually uses the 4 mg. pieces and he was never more than a pack a day smoker. And it is a very expensive habit!! (I think he's told me that some of the generic kinds produced by chain stores like Brooks are cheaper and just as good) However, it's what works for him and I'm so glad he's not smoking anymore. Also, he's gotten much better about chewing unobtrusively when he's around me. His doc insists there's nothing dangerous about the gum.

Keep supporting one another. It's fun to watch from the sidelines. Don't sweat the ocassional slips. Persevere
