I ran across a book I had bought a couple of years ago that I found interesting. It's called it's only too late IF YOU DON'T START NOW, by Barbara Sher. Her hypothesis is that at around 40, when you start to realize your mortality, your second life starts: "The goals you pursue in your second life, because they come from your deepest gits..can lead you to greatness." It's not specifically related to starting over because of depression, but I found it relevant anyway. I found my true career in my mid-thirties. It came out of having been thrown out off my original career path because of depression and other psychological problems. I had the time to go back and take more undergraduate classes in art-- (Have a MA in psychology). But now in my forties, I am still struggling with relationships and I guess the next part of my life is about that. This past 8 months have been a setback for me; my meds stopped working and I was again dealing primarily only with depression.
