Our inheritance from the past is pretty dreadful when it comes to sex and men and women, and good and evil as well.

It was a very strong feeling in the Prado.
These extreme representations of goodness and evil, men and women and sensuality.
So many suffering Virgins. That kind of Christ. Wicked leering Jews.

OTOH, I liked The Garden of Earthly Delights so much I went back to see it the next day. There are certainly cruel and unusual punishments, but the pink things in the original are glorious. I have been told that ergot poisoning was common in Europe around then.
