Dinah, I felt I had to respond to you since I offered although I am boiling mad at Dr. Bob.
I restored my pc probably 5 times and bought countless new security software thinking I had a virus. I did not. I am not as technical savvy as my aunt. She could take your computer apart and rebuild it.
But I did finally after years of having my old computer finally decide that it just wasn't going to behave like it did when it was new no matter how many times I erased the hard drive and re-loaded everything.
I went to a Mac which doesn't have nearly the amount of problems a pc does but I realize some people don't want to learn a new system. I don't regret my decision to leave the pc world.
For one thing in the two years I have owned my mac it has never frozen up. It never crashes and has been basically problem free. If it gets slower empty the cache and you are back in business. I also find support more helpful and local. A plus. In any event I wish you luck. You said you restored to factory condition, how about erasing the entire operating system and then restore that from your backup disks. Save all pertinent information on disks first.
just a thought
rsk
