Samaritans/Babble

Posted by serena11 on May 18, 2006, at 19:34:29

I have only just discovered this online treasure and was thinking about how I used to email the Samaritans when I was suicidal. The Samaritans definitely helped and I reread their online page over and over to stay alive. But this is something really different. There is more potential here for accidentally hurting someone or things getting messy, but it's so REAL. I am impressed with every post I have read because it's not scripted, it's real people dealing with real pain, and virtual strangers are reaching out to help carry such burdens. It's a unique place. I wonder what my healing experience would have been like had I found this place. I used to email my counselors at least once daily, sometimes many times, and they were always willing to respond and care. But there were times I was afraid to let them know how suicidal I felt, or how I was struggling with THEM, and this would have been a great way to find others in need. Once I accepted what was wrong with me, I was also eager to see if anyone else was going through the same agony. So this is a special place and I find myself wanting "meet" everyone and hug them. Life is messy but when it's real, there's nothing like it.
