A new therapeutic technique!?

Posted by fires on January 3, 2006, at 20:52:31

Planted memories (false memories) put to good use?

Dr. Elizabeth Loftus has shown not only that it is possible to implant false memories, but that it is relatively easy to do so:

"Loftus, Elizabeth. The Myth of Repressed Memory (New York: St. Martin's, 1994)."

Now she and others have shown: "...that adults can be led to believe falsely that eating certain foods as children made them sick and that such false beliefs can have consequences."

There's speculation that the above could be useful in diet modification, including that for weight loss.

Just imagine how implanting false memories could be used for a huge number of disorders and/or modifying negative behaviors.
