Well, if I remember my DBT correctly, one tool is to accept the thoughts' existence. Don't fight them but merely observe them like you would observe leaves floating down the stream.

The more energy you put into disliking the thoughts, trying to stop them, the more energy the thoughts will have. But if you stop and observe them quietly, the energy will seep out.

This involves learning to adopt an observer's stance I suppose.

Don't let the name fool you. It's full of good general skills techniques that should probably be taught in school with Algebra and English. If your library doesn't have it, you can try an interlibrary loan. And let them know they *should* have it. :)
