Reading science fiction is different and strange enough to get you off your own back, thinking about stuff outside yourself.

If my mind is fixated on a topic or problem and I can't sleep, I put the radio on to CoastToCoastAM (Art Bell) and the nightly topic is always divergent just enough to get me outta my own head, and before I know what hit me, it's nighty-night-time... Works everytime.

PS: Sex seems to have a similar effect, yet sometimes new ideas come flooding in and I have to put on CoastToCoastAM anyway..... but I have to wear a headphone radio so as not to disturb....
Lucky for me her eyesights not like it used to be or one look at me with headphones, and I'd be out sharing the porch with the cat.
