I'm glad you posted. The thread you refer to I didn't read...it is the only way I can protect myself from that cr**. I always feel a little guilty not supporting those who get in there and fight the good fight, but I don't think you can convince someone who doesn't listen.

That said, it sounds reasonable to me to be careful about false memories. We know that lots of things we see or do as children are misinterpretted so they can be "wrong" memories, not really "false." It has been my experience that repressed memories come both suddenly and also in pieces, like a puzzle. I always liken it to having a conversation with someone about a movie...they say something that makes you remember another part, and then you say something, and the more you talk about it, the more you remember. Pulling the thread, my therapist calls it.

I think the worse thing that you can do is force the memories out or get upset with yourself for not remembering all of it "right now!" It may take a while for things to fit together. Feelings may lead to other things too. Is it possible that you felt like someone died at some point during the abuse?
