Sorry to see that no one responded to your post here. I just glanced over at this board, as I usually just post on "Social". OK. I have started and stopped treatment/counseling several times since 1989. I initially started going for depression while my mom was dying of cancer. Got the old tricyclic antidepressants, which had bad side effects. After a year, I decided I did not need it,and just stopped going, cold turkey.
In 1991, shortly after my mom died, I went back to a different Pdoc. That's when Prozac was just starting to become popular. That helped for a bit, but I moved the following year. I found a GP who prescibed me the Prozac in my new state, but I did not see a Pdoc or get counseling. In 1996, I began going back to a Pdoc because of Prozac poop-out, and sleep issues. After a few months trial, got on Wellbutrin and Tranzene, and have been going back just for meds every 4 months. Now, July-Dec 2001. I went to a counselor really to find ways to deal with my WIFE'S depression. That helped ME not fall deeper into my own depression. Started seeing him again this past Dec. for the same reason. So, YES, it is not unusual to stop, start, stop as you NEED it. Your life situation is certain to change over time, so your needs for attention will too. Hope that makes sense.
