It sounds very frustrating.
I don't know enough about OCD to give a lot of advice... but I do know that for me my mild ocd type things flare up when I am under stress. Sometimes I'm not even aware I'm stressed out. So the best recommendation I know of is to try to find areas of stress and reduce them.
Also, it sounds like this is getting between your girlfriend and you, too. Could be a reason to see a relationship counselor.
One thing that was recommended to me once was to wear a rubber band on my wrist and if I noticed I was starting to obsess, to snap it -- sort of to get my own attention -- then change activities (like if walking with your girlfriend, sit down for a minute, give her a kiss, go into a store, anything to change things and concentrate on the new activity -- sometimes if you stop for a minute or two it doesn't come back for a while.)
Another thing that works for me, is describing something in my head. So you're walking, notice you're obsessing, find a nearby tree and try to think of three adjectives to describe the way it feels to you: for example, green, waving, peaceful. Sometimes that's enough to get me out of my head. Usually its very hard for me to start but once I get going I feel a sense of relief.
