Because they are committed to 'no'.

They blurted out early on or decided for themselves in a non-epistempically responsible way 'no'.

And then all the cognitive effort that has gone into it ever after has been rationalising or justifying the `no'.

That's why it's important not to ask permission. Because you ask.

And instead of them coming up with the right answer so we can all get with the programme already and move on with our lives...

ANd instead of them saying 'I have to think abuot it befor emaking up my mind'.

And instead of them saying 'my initial impression is 'no' but I need to hear more to check if I still think 'no''.

And instead of them saying 'no' but being responsive to reason and being able to say 'huh, well now I change my mind'.

And instead of them saying 'I don't know, whatever you think. I'll make the decision that affects me and you make the decision that affects you and we can be free to be master of ourself'.

Instead of the vast variety of reasonable things for them to do...

They make the wrong decision on snap judgmeent and defend their way as the highway as the only way till death do they part.

I don't know why.
