Yeah, Ive read the same stuff about vitamin D. Ive taken both the prescription drisdol stuff (high dose) and the OTC stuff (D3) and in my experiences, the prescription stuff kicks the crap out of any OTC vitamin D I have taken so far.My GP doc currently wont prescribe anymore drisdol for me because I technically not vitamin D deficient anymore. They used to use it for stuff like rickets in children and teenagers and maybe as an adjunct treatment for TB. Vitamin D all the attention goes to bone health, but trust me, it also has a psychoactive effect especially if you take it in high doses. And it also improves my immunity a lot.
To get the drisdol stuff (or generic equivalent), you normally have to have a doctor say you are formally vitamin D blood deficient. Or suffering from a vitamin D related deficiency related illness. Most docs dont know much about it beyond bone health, as I mentioned. Trying to educate them about it is usually like banging your head against a wall, IMO.
Suntanning also works just as good, <thumbs up>. And you dont need no stinking doctor's prescription for that.
