Alpha Lipoic acid does have an AD effect in my books. It can increase serotonin synthesis, and it works as an insulin sensitizer which may have an AD effect in its own right.
Too much made me a little paranoid however. I think there is some dopaminergic mechanism. It might be particularly useful where a metabolic disorder is comorbid with depression.
