Fatigue and minerals

Posted by Lao Tzu on May 28, 2008, at 9:25:44

Not only are B-vitamins good for fatigue, like B1, B5, and B12, but also I've read that certain minerals are necessary if you have a lot of fatigue and mental apathy. Of course, antipsychotic and antianxiety meds can also make you feel mentally fatigued. This is what I've read about fatigue:

1)Low potassium

2)Low magnesium

3)Low or High calcium

4)Low sodium

I've found that if you increase your potassium levels, magnesium, and sometimes, calcium, along with B-vitamins, you may feel less fatigued. Now, it is not really recommended to take high doses of potassium supplements unless you have certain kinds of heart conditions. People on heart meds and diuretics have to be especially careful with potassium supplements. However, I don't have a heart condition and my diet is pretty poor, so I take potassium and magnesium supplements, and I believe my energy is much better. Some sources say you should get 3 grams of potassium a day, but I don't really know for sure. If you may be hesitant to take high doses of potassium supplements, a more acceptable recommendation is to get it from your diet. 4-6 bananas a day along with other fresh fruits and some low fat milk products are great sources of potassium. I've heard that eating several bananas a day would not hurt you. In fact, it would be beneficial because bananas have all kinds of energizing nutrients in them. They are, indeed, a perfect food.
