I saw a patient 6 months ago, a 28-year old professional woman who had been seriously depressed for 10 years despite high doses of SSRIs and in particular paroxetine 60mg daily in recent years.Having done tests on her blood, urine and hair I found she had histadelia,a low serotonin state often associated with severe depression and OCD. This is difficult to treat with nutrients, even the large number I recommended. Two months ago I advised her to up her fish oil intake to 5g daily from 2g and I am happy to report that she is no longer depressed. She is able to leave work an hour earlier every evening too because her OCD is much better.
