This is what I've found out about Holy Basil >

Holy Basil may protect against the toxic effects of excessive Stress
Holy Basil may lower Stress-induced activity of Lactic Dehydrogenase (the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of Pyruvic Acid to Lactic Acid in response to excessive Stress).
Holy Basil may lower Stress-induced excessive activity of Alkaline Phosphatase.
Holy Basil may lower elevated Stress-induced Corticosterone levels.
Holy Basil may help to lower Blood Pressure in Hypertension patients.

Most of the citations I've given above have studies to back them up. Rather large to post here, but should be available on places such as pubmed.com.

I don't know if this helps to indicate whether Holy Basil is an adaptogen. It has plenty of alleged effects on the immune system and metabolism again mentioned in studies.
