Unfortunately I don't think there is any consensus of hard evidence on how much to take or which component in it works. Basically, overall, most sources believe it is the EPA that is most important, and that doses of 1000mg of it per day are about right. And oddly, higher doses than that didn't work in some studies.
I take 3 fish oil capsules a day, each with 180mg EPA and 120mg DHA. My pdoc is big on vitamins and fish oil and stuff. She thinks my dose is good for now. She had me increase from 1 cap a day to 3 per day. Because I take other meds, I really don't know what it is doing. But it's very healthy in a lot of ways, so it can't hurt. Get a good brand that is free of mercury. Give it a good month or two to see if it helps in any way. If you are not taking meds, then it should be easier to tell.
