Magnesium Taurate

Posted by MoparFan91 on September 4, 2005, at 23:37:36

Has anyone ever tried Magnesium Taurate for Bipolar, depression, or anxiety?

If so, how well does it work?

How does it compare to Lithium or other anticonvulsant drugs?

Over a week ago, I ordered some Magnesium Taurate. I decided to replace the Fish Oil with it. Basically, it's Magnesium chelated with the amino acid Taurine (I took this before and had some help with anxiety).

I'm now taking 125mg Magnesium Taurate four times a day. Additionally, I take 300mg of Lamictal and 75mg of Topamax (increasing to 100mg next week).

I recently read on some web pages that indicated some studies which said that, for rapid cycling bipolar disorder, Fish Oil was no better than placebo. So, I punted it and went to Magnesium Taurate instead. I wasn't really getting any mood benefits with Fish Oil (even with high EPA formulas) anyway.

First of all, based on what I know, here's how Magnesium Taurate works:

NMDA Glutamate antagonist
GABA(A) and GABA(B) agonist
Calcium Channel Blocker
Works on Sodium, Potassium Voltage Channels
Kinase Activity Mediator
Affinity for Serotonin
Dopamine and Norepinephrine Blocker

With these mechanisms, Magnesium Taurate looks like a good mood stabilizer.
