I think the idea of light therapy is that it results in suppression of melatonin. It also increases the synthesis of serotonin, according to what I've read. I'm not sure if this is because less tryptophan (the precursor of both serotonin and melatonin) is used for melotonin production, allowing more to be used to make serotonin, or whether it's a seperate action altogether.
