Ed I don't think you are missing much. I used to live in the UK but now I'm in New Zealand. I found an Indian shopkeeper who keeps Fijian kava under his counter, although it's legal here. I find it's a very mild stimulant. Like very mild. I haven't found it addictive. It dries the skin if you take it too often. I think the liver damage is based on only one, questionable, case. There's certainly nothing wrong with mine. How like Westerners to ban something harmless like kava while allowing the liberal use of alcohol, a drug that is addictive, causes illness and death, to self and others. Kava does none of these things. Of course the British introduced their wonder drug alcohol to Fiji and others island groups. Do we feel guily about this? Of course not
