I was hoping somebody else would weigh in on this, as Chinese herbal medicine is not a strong point with me. Anyway....

The species name is Lycium barbarum, in the nightshade family. There are perhaps fifty articles in Pubmed, mostly indicating that there is some antioxidant and immune stimulatory activity. But so do tomatoes (and other nightshades).

Is there something unique or special about wolfberry? I can't tell. It might be beneficial in the early stages of a viral illness. <shrug>
