I'm glad you took my comment in the light-hearted way it was served up. You know she is quackish already, as you made note of her notoriety. However, if you are in doubt, I would be happy to reveal the readings on my Quackometer(r).

> What I've been trying to determine is if I want to do a body detox/cleansing plan.....you know, first detox the colon, then the liver/gallbladder...that kind of thing........I feel so darned sluggish/lethargic/tired/fatigued....especially SINCE I started taking a bunch of supplements (per Pfeiffer).....some of it may be due to bipolar (the fluctuations in energy levels), some may be due to this crummy sunLESS, dark, Winter season also....

That's a powerful influence on some people, like me....

> but I've heard that a sluggish, clogged liver/colon/gallbladder could also contribute to these sluggish, lethargic feelings.....hence, I was trying to determine if a colon/liver cleanse might be worth my while.......

Although some benefits do seem to accrue from these cleansing protocols, it may be no more than a coincidental finding.....most, if not all of these methods also involve fasting....I can assure you that I have thoroughly sought out medical images of what may conceivably be clogged livers, gallbladders, colons, small intestines, large intestines....blah blah.....the images should exist, if it is a real phenomenon, regardless of what you might call it....but there is no confirmatory evidence that I have ever found.

> also, I've heard that many, many people (perhaps even a higher % of psyche patients, like bipolars) could use a body detoxing for Candida/parasites, etc.....

That's a separate issue....just wanna make that clear....but again, you may be seeing coincidental correlation....the treatment of candidiasis involves dietary changes....and you know how much I believe in dietary measures in support of psych treatment...

Parasites.....there's yin and yang, but using a vermifuge probably won't hurt in any case...

> in fact, a while back there was a dude with a website whom I asked you about (he wrote how bipolar was NOT a disease and stressed taking steps like detoxing to kill parasites, etc....you said that you knew the guy and that you had a lot of his info on your computer somewhere....I THINK that Allan might have been his name but I could be wrong about that)

Funny, I don't remember the parasite part....we always discussed nutrients....

> ....anyway, I'm wondering if there would be possible benefits to doing these colon/liver-type cleanses....to clean out backed-up, wastes in the body?

I just don't think the rationale offered (the mental picture of what's happening) is the real explanation for the benefits arising, if any. It's not about toxins, it's about fasting, IMHO.

> I don't know if that is quackery or not? It makes sense that a body, esp. people that eat and drink the kinds of fast "garbage" foods found in American diets today (along with environmental toxins, etc), would have loads of putrafied crap clogged in their systems......

Does it? I eliminate mine, every day.....

> ,what do you think of the idea of colon/liver cleanses Lar? I don't know, when it comes to a lot of these health-related thingys, what is quackery and what isn't. These can be done quite inexpensively, often VERY inexpensively.

I like inexpensive.

> Milk of magnesia.............................but if you chew the tablets (like you're sposed to)....
>
> >>>>>>>>> Lar, you don't mean that all magnesium tablets need to be chewed first do you?

My comments were intended to apply solely to the use of milk of magnesia in the treatment of stomach upset.

> I don't recall seeing any of my mag. glycinate directions saying to chew the tablets first.

I'm sorry if my example was seen in that light....it was a specific case, not intended to be generalized to all mag supps.

> Later Hoover...you RULE! (Lar, I remember you saying that you also hated these sunless, dark Winters.....they suck don't they....hope you are well Hoover!!!)

It sucks. Sucky sucky sucks.

Later,
Lar
