Calcium:Magnesium ratio

Posted by rianny on November 13, 2003, at 4:03:22

I'm taking extra Magnesium added to multivitamin supplements to deal with my anxiety. My multivita pills contain 175mg of calcium and 50 mg of magnesium. My Calcium/Magnesium (it also contains vita D and some others) is in 2:1 ratio and each pill contains 350mg of calcium and 175mg of magnesium.

I used to take 2 pills of Calcium/Mag, which give me 700mg of calcium and 350mg of magnesium. However, I now take one pill of Cal/Mag because I'm worried about kidney stone.

I read from somewhere that males are likely to develop kidney stones with extra calcium supplement.

I can notice that I feel little relaxed after taking calcium/mag pill, but worried about over-dosage (Is it Mag that makes me feel relaxed or calcium?). Should I get Mag only supplement, and take it without Calcium so I don't have to worry about stones? Also, what would be the best form of mag that I can get. The current one I'm taking is Mag Oxide. I take it before bed, but the relaxing feeling poops out in the morning. It seems like it doesn't last very long.

I used to take SSRI's and Benzo(Klonopin), but I tappered off comepletely since they both make me feel stupid (feels like reducing my cognitive skills). So no drug I'm taking now.

Any comment is welcome =)
