Murphia is a Rockstar! :)

Murphia (And all of the posters she has helped):

I am new to this site. In fact, the first email I posted was a question posed to Murphia. She responded immediately with a wealth of information. She seems to know her stuff, has no agenda, and is an absolute pleasure to read.

I haven't logged in for a few days, but to read the latest threads from regarding the reporter is very upsetting.

We are here to learn and share in a safe enviornemnt. I find this "investigative journalism" very disconcerting.

Murph, thank you again for the generosity and kindness you have shown to me and other posters.

Best,

Shannon

After reading through the entire thread, I must admit, I am very disappointed by Dr. Bob's position on the "reporter" and Murphia's supposed "slight" against her. I didn't notice a slight. The connotation of deluded may be construed as a slight, but the denotation was right on the mark. Sorry, but I think Dr. Bob "jumped the gun" with his hand slap to Murphia. Further, Murphia's keen insight into the possible ulterior motives surrounding this article (more sales) seems highly plausible.

Maybe I should point out that one of my other incarnations is a journalist... yes, one of those nasty persons who runs around sticking microphones and tape recorders in peoples' faces... asking questions and writing down answers... I am for the most part.. when I am not doing the thing I love most, working with my dogs, but it doesn't pay a whole lot, a broadcast journalist... freelancing in print to pay for the dog food... I never leave the house without a camera in my bag... and I know how easy it is to step across the line from what was written in that first post to lord knows where... when there is a story, then the journalist is never one to be leashed... and, no, here I am not a journalist; it never occurred to me to use this forum as a place for a story; here I am learning about how to make my life work better for me, the person who loves working with her dogs and writing under her by-line and singing her heart out when that part of her life kicks in...
but I do know how easy it is for the writer to exploit the subject and I was affronted by the subtle entrance of the magazine writer, not for myself but for others...
if I crossed a line, I am sorry... but then again remembering the chaos that the student with his blind testing created on the other list with his publishing of experiences and feelings... he chose to attack one person's grammar and obvious lack of education then sat back and watched the fur fly as others either defended that person or joined the attack wondering why they had to put up with so illiterate a person in their forum...
this is a place where I have learned so much and hope to learn so much more as my neurologist has kicked me loose today, saying that as long as the status remains quo I do not need him... I need you people, for me this is the blanket to which Linus clings... oh how wonderful a comparison...
and I would not want to lose that...
I suppose it is like that supermarket bulletinboard, but can't quite see myself posting a notice telling the people in my supermarket that I am worried about hair thinning or about any of the other side effects of topomax <G>
kat
oh yeah and to add to the side effect carousel thanks to an asthma attack I now can add the prednisone SEs to the list to sort out... does it ever end... among them is a weight gain one... just what I don't need....LOL

Gosh Thanks all **blush**.. you all are really great and I'm sorry if I had a hand in stirring up controversy. Media and reporters are great, I read everything all the time myself. But touting epilepsy medication as a thin pill, which could hurt unsuspecting people, perks "my little ears up"... just a little <big grin>. So that being aside, I would like to invite you to a topamax message group that I've been on and I think you will find it fun and informative. We even have search engines that you can go back in old posts and search a subject of interest to you. You do have to register, but there is no heavy hand rules. We don't judge, we want information, and we don't allow solicitation. We all seem to look out for each other. You are all great right here, and I'll be dropping in from time to time if I can...but you are all welcome over at

I sure hope that link works, I'm not on my regular computer. But if not, I'll resend it. Thanks all and have a GREAT and Happy Thanksgiving!! Hugs. Murph

You know, I am sitting here reading the above and thinking that if anyone should know this it is I... and yet here is a place that I do feel as if there is that safe and secure place to discuss the side effects and the concerns about this medication, a place where people who have concerns and even fears about the use of it can share their uncertainties among friends in safety... that cocoon you mention... we know that Dr. Bob is monitoring the site and may use comments or experiences mentioned; he states that up front, but not in the interest of selling magazines and raising demographics... that is a totally different thing...
and while there has been little of late that has given me reason to feel that I must try to defend it... having put Rosinante in her stall and hung up my dented lance over the fireplace for the last time, this is a place and these are people, totally unknown beyond names on a messageboard, I would defend...
and today of all days that is really something coming from me..
