First thought is gaba. But OP says alcohol has many effects. Second thought was that certain benzodiazepines are used in epilepsy.
This might sound horrifying to some, but two shots of whiskey per day is not the worst substance I can think of ingesting. Worked in the old days. Just not to compulsion or alcoholism....
