Hey man - I am still on Nardil at 75mg. I finally found a way to get the weight to drop. I know one of your main concerns is to avoid cognitive issues though so I don't think my cocktail (at least at the moment) would be something tolerable. I'm willing to go heavy with this at the moment to bring my weight down though in the hopes that Marplan comes back on the market soon (more on that in a sec). What I'm taking now:Nardil 75mg - Gavis/Lupin Generic - (working well enough for depression / very well for social anxiety)
Lamical 200 - Taro Generic - (Was on Teva for years until they stopped making it - took months to find another generic that worked sufficiently but Taro seem to be ok - I guess it's still helping)
Metformin 2000 - Sun Extended RLS - (Was on this as my primary defense against Nardil weight gain for a full year and went from 216 to 236lbs. I probalby would have gained much more had I not been taking Metformin though. I also truly believe it's good for me anyway and new studies have shown it prevents risk of psychotic issues.
Seroquel 25mg - Lupin Generic - Just for sleep - been knocking me out for 10+ years, never needed more, never had a problem with it.
A month ago I'd had it when I was closing in on 240lbs and called my doc. I told him I had some Topamax for a couple years back that had worked fairly well and was hoping he'd ok me trying it again. He said it was ok and called in a new script as well. I've been on that a bit over a month now:
Topamax - 50, 100, 200, 150(prob back to 100) - Tried generic Zydus(No good), Cipla (Liked it but not sure about wt loss), Glenmark (similar), finally Costco had Sun which I tried last on my 4th week so could have been timing but weight started coming down so I'm on Sun generic at 150mg now. After a month weight is down from 236 to 228ish. So I'm happy I'm heading the other way now. My memory is shot but at 100mg it's not bad. I just pushed the dose to 200 quickly to try to see some result....I was desperate to see some weight loss.....Mainly trying to buy time until Marplan is back.
So yea Marplan. I've talked to the rep a few times (she's fantastic). I think they're working on getting a new manufacturer approved but that requires the FDA to do a ton of additional reviews. Based on a photo I saw on Drugs.com (and a review that some lady posted there in December) I think Roche might be the company and they may be having difficulty with that (long delay). The good news is Marplan is now marketed by a company in Denmark and the US company (Val.dus) is trying to get permission to import it from them for patients in the meantime.
I'd recommend calling - there's really no harm in that and they'll take your name and let you know right when it's in. I've called/emailed every 3 or 4 months so I'm sure once it's available I'll be one of the first they reach out to......For me it works a million times better than Nardil. It makes me feel more "myself" in a way...but.
Nardil is somewhat of a disappointment but it's too late to try to find some alternative and I'm not in a bad place or anything.....I would just love to see the topamax continue to keep me from having an appetite and dropping weight....
