hi. where i live, there should be at least 1 psychiatrist (maybe any sort of MD/DO?) in the practice, to supervise. I don't know how it is in your state, but...where I live, you can look them up on the licensing board website, and it'll show the MD/DO supervising. If you're feeling extra inquisitive, you can look up that MD/DO and see how many NPs they're currently supervising. oh, and board complaints, sanctions, etc. that, too.

i think the current law in my state is that NPs can prescribe anything except Schedule II, maybe Schedule III. So...benzodiazepines, Lyrica, the Z-hypnotics...yes. Amphetamines, Ritalin...no. I don't know of any Schedule III psych drugs, except maybe some not so commonly used barbiturates and milder pain pills.

but I imagine each state varies, considerably. some states have put in crazy restrictions on the benzodiazepine prescribing, even though they're left in Schedule IV. lots of paperwork, scrutiny. oddly enough, I read that shrinks in those states are resorting to Equanil and some barbiturates, to avoid the hassles. LOL.

ok. hope this helps. :-)
