minocycline has other effects (independent of its antibiotic effect) which may be improving mood.

There is no evidence that downing handfuls of generic antibiotics helps depression. There is, however, evidence that excessive use of antibiotics can precipitate depression.

The effect of minocycline may not be generalizable to other drugs in its class.
