I couldn't imagine not drinking and smoking a pack of cigarettes after work; or not spending every free moment preparing for a fishing trip or actually fishing. Withdrawn from friends and familiy. Feeling like people were nothing more than props in my life.

Since doing so the compulsive behavior and seething irritability are gone. I would rather come home and rest after work than go to the bar. I am going to stay home this weekend and do my taxes instead of driving alone 4 hours for a weekend of fishing.

I wonder if there is some property of trazodone that I can satisfy in another med without causing the compulsiveness and agitation. I suspect the side effects were either from partial agonism of the 5ht1a site (buspar, viibryd, brintellix all gave me a similar detatched or irritable effect) or from the mcpp metabolite which is a messy releaser of neurotransmitters.

follow up...tried nortriptyline and it has handled the concentration, mood, anxiety issues that came when I dropped trazodone, but the NE makes me way too hyperfocused to sleep. Anything that will block this function (other than trazodone lol)?
