The Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients had this to say about acacia: "Acacia is mainly used in oral and topical pharmaceutical formulations as a suspending and emulsifying agent, often in combination with tragacanth. It is also used in the preparation of pastilles and lozenges, as a tablet binder, although if used incautiously it can produce tablets with a prolonged disintegration time."

I wonder if the acacia in the old Nardil formulation might have played a role in making the medication more effective (as least in comparison to the new formulation) by slowing the breakdown of the tablets. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case, but I think it's possible.

At any rate, I wish you luck with taking acacia with your Nardil, if you end up doing that.
