Hi, Ruthie, welcome to Babble.
In my experience, and in others' I have read of here, antidepressants, they work not only on the brain receptors but mostly through the gut. For me, weight gain and successfully fighting depression have been hand in hand.
I am sure others with more knowledge will chime in.
