It's not a user friendly world out there and it's getting worse. What we assume is clean, may not be. Gluten. GMO. These are fairly new in the last few decades. Plastics. We do not know the rest of the story on that one. The latest was the BPA thing but you know that's just an introduction if history is any guide. Parents of today's kids, many of them were exposed to leaded gasoline. So who knows? I would think it's all a culmination of what society has adopted as ok or not. Stuff making people sicker these days...in my learned opinion...are some of the common things we assume are without risk.

GMO corn for example. Corn isn't going to make anyone sick or cause diseases, right?

The story was in South America. A corn plantation used GMO seeds from the USA because they were the cheapest and were genetically modified to make bigger crops and fewer pests. Sounds great. That same corn is most of the food in our grocery stores. Unless it says "non-gmo" on the package.

In the third world setting this plantation is in, the workers in those farm fields relied on corn as their staple diet since it was available and free.

I don't remember how many of the workers came down with chronic conditions but it was a lot. A large of those workers gradually over time came down with all sorts of mysterious conditions, symptoms, and diseases. And then some of them began to actually die. Some did die.

In our diets corn is not our staple food. Though it is in many of our foods. Our primary intake is not corn. On that plantation it was their primary intake. Relatively low levels of toxic effect in the gmo maybe are not a health concern for most people, but in larger amounts becomes more dangerous, just like any other toxic substance. We just don't eat enough to reach that threshold. The plantation workers did. But for the 20% some odd percentage of the population with defective genes which hinder excretion of toxins, just normal american diet might be enough to cause disease, damage, and symptoms.

But what about a baby? Should a baby be eating our corn? Not in my house! And then that baby grows up and people wonder where the symptoms came from.

The plantation owner suspected the gmo corn and for the next season ordered the more expensive non-modified corn seeds. There were no health issues that season. For the season following that one, the owner could not afford the non-modified seeds so he had no choice but to order the gmo seeds. By this time it was maybe assumed that all that disease maybe wasn't the corn? Nobody really new. The whole genetically modified science is fairly new, and never tested in mass over time. Anyway, again, workers came down with all sorts of symptoms.

If we personally accept that the world we live in is actually more contaminated than we think it is, then it becomes much easier to do something about it. Organic, gluten free, non-gmo...this stuff isn't much more expensive. The medical bills over time of NOT doing those things, I believe would trump the cost of doing those things and not having the medical bills.

imo. patients should do their own research to validate.
