I just don't know enough. I would encourage you to search for other types of imaging and other interpretations of their results. I think PET scans are valid indicators of brain activity. fMRI is another method of measuring brain activity through blood flow and tissue morphology.
Don't confuse reduced neural activity and blood flow with reduced tissue volume, cell death, or injury.
