I think its mainly because of interactions with other drugs Phillipa - some of the newer SSRI's such as Zoloft of Lexapro are a lot "cleaner" and dont interfear with the metabolism of other drugs like lexapro can.

Having said that, provided you're aware of the interactions, they dont have to be problematic, I dont think Luvox is bad in that it has any toxicity problems beyone the rest of the SSRI family (ie, very low)
