Re: Valium for muscle relaxation

I've taken Valium and found it to be a very good muscle relaxant, but Valium and other benzos can be a double-edged sword. While Valium was very relaxing and I was sleeping nine hours a night on it (normally I'm an insomniac), it made my depression worse. With long-term benzo use (over two weeks) there's the danger of tolerance and withdrawal symptoms once you stop taking it. Because of its very long half-life, Valium is easier to taper than other benzos. About one-third of people who take benzos long-term will have serious withdrawal symptoms when they stop taking them. (I was one of those.) The good news is that two-thirds of people either have only mild withdrawal symptoms or no withdrawal symptoms. EMG biofeedback or EEG biofeedback (neurofeedback) might be a better and safer solution for your tense muscles.
