Hi Lar, the kind of gastric surgery I had dont affect the stomach...they keep the muscle that I forget the name at the end of the stomach and the size of the stomach return to it original size after 2 years... They by-pass a lot of intestine, keep only 1.5 meters on 7 meters...that's why people's loose so much weight, far soluble vitamins are the ones who are not well absorb, water solub vitamins are not affected. Also no dumping syndrome cause of the normal stomach so sugar can't cause rapid rise of sugar like it usually do for the type of gastric by pass they perform most of the time in the USA where they leave only a small pounch as a stomach... So in order of malabsorption, fat is what I absorb the less... The good news is that less fat is absorb who lead to low bad cholesterol and low triglycerides.... But on other hand the good cholesterol is also very low...I try to fix it right now with high dose of omega 3 fish oil but so far no improve, I guess I don't absorb omega 3 very well... Secondly the proteins are not well absorb... Who can be a problem so that's why the Surgeon ask to eat more proteins, vegetables are hard to digest since food high in fiber are not good and can lead to obstruction and fruits is also the same problem, they have to be mashed, without skin, no seeds, no corn, no nuts, no peanut... So that's why we are told to eat meat or nother kind of protein first and if we are hungry we can add mashed fruits and a little bit of vegetable...

I did try the chromium and didn't find it effective to control the sugar craving... Already have to take 1 strong centrum multi-vitamins a day, Vitamine D 50 000 units a day who is a huge dose but I'm borderline limit for that vitamin from my last blood tests. Have to take Vitamine A 30 000 units a day also and 1500 mg of calcium and 300 mg of iron...

For now I don't take the calcium and iron cause of the severe constipation, my calcium level is low but the iron, ferritine, B12 and red cells, hemoglobin are all middle range... So no anemia... And I'm lucky cause I have internal bleeding hemmorhoids...

I really think the sugar craving is linked to my low solid foods intake cause of the internal pain and constipation. The anxiety following the sugar intake can be psychology related, I mean that when I eat sugar I think about side effects it can have on me and lead to panic... My anxiety for most part come from conditioned fears... Negative thoughts about possible disease I can have especially my heart, head or lungs... Cause I know I don't exercise so not in good physical state, I smoke and I don't eat enough so I'm underweight...

That's hard to reverse that kind of anxiety call somatoform disorder... Just find a new therapist so will work hard on all of this in 2013... Other CBT therapies I had and I had done a lot of them between 2008 and 2011 had no success to decreas my anxiety... So will hope that new therapist will help me more...
