I don't think that Marplan inhibits GABA-transaminase activity (and thus raise GABA levels) in the brain like Nardil does, even though both drugs are hydrazines.

> Now i dont know if Marplan is weight neutral already?

I found that Marplan was relatively weight-neutral when compared to Nardil.

What condition or symptoms are you attempting to treat?

I would say that a higher percentage of people respond to Parnate than to Marplan. Parnate is probably less liable than Nardil to precipitate mania, but it certainly can. I found Marplan to be very tolerable with respect to side-effects.

If you are bipolar, it might be desirable to take some type of anti-manic or mood-stabilizer on a steady basis. It sounds like you are either bipolar I or schizoaffective. Of the neuroleptic antipsychotics, only Geodon and Latuda are truly weight-neutral. I think that Latuda would be safer to add to an MAOI than Geodon because Geodon inhibits the reuptake of serotonin like SSRIs do. I would be concerned that Geodon might precipitate serotonin syndrome, even though the drug is not terribly potent as a reuptake inhibitor. Latuda is currently being looked at for bipolar depression. Among the anticonvulsants, I would look at Trileptal and Depakote as providing protection against mania. Of course, lithium is a valid alternative. Depakote and lithium can, but not always, produce weight gain. I never gained weight with either of these drugs.

Good luck with whatever you choose.
