adrenalin from sleep early am

Posted by alamosa on August 4, 2012, at 20:22:53

Am having trouble negotiating the site. Bleauberry posted
something in 2009 which I just fortuitously found through google... I would like to hear from bleauberry or anyone else with ideas.

Here is the post I tried to send but failed:

bleauberry-- you posted a comment back in 2009 on early am adrenalin cortisol dysregulation that I fortuitously came across in a google search.

I will side track to that if I may...as the only thing I have to say about nortriptyline you probably already know: it is a metabolite of amytriptyline--supposedly stronger with fewer side effects--less anticholinergic and less sedating mainly. It never worked for me. I have heard from a psychiatrist I worked with that as little as 10 mg of elavil works(yes very small amounts seemed to work). Nortriptyline is twice as strong so 5 mg
would do it.

Back to the purpose of my post:(adrenalin cortisol)

My symptoms confounded every doctor = adrenalin release during sleep or shortly after waking up. And lots of it--so much that my blood levels of catecholamines caused them to think I had a pheochromocytoma and was duly given an MIBG scan for this (MRI with radio isotopes--gold standard)

I trace all the problems to 1 culprit---after some bereavement issues I was stupidly given Seroquel for depression--after 4 months I stopped it (talk about stomach pains from withdrawal)--and the depression was still there worse than ever--no X10
worse than ever.

I decided to aerobic exercise my way through the depression...this worked to a degree...I would get better but 1 nights sleep would set it right back. Eventually quit the aerobics and that is when it became obvious that adrenalin surges during sleep were causing everything--particularly sleep in the early am was the most deadly.

So it is now down to sleep adrenalin--what is causing it and how to get rid of it. That is where your posting was to say the least very interesting.
Oh yes, apnea negative.

My milnacipran will be in on Monday (your posting)
am willing to try anything.

Did you take in the am...did you continue it or was the reset of cortisol permanent after a shock?
