Hello,

Scott, perhaps you (or anyone) could answer a question: does prazosin (or propanolol, for that matter) actually directly affect anxiety? I had thought beta-blockers and their like were only useful for the outward side-effects of anxiety, like palpitations and sweating, and so were useful in a sort of placebo way because they eliminated those aspects of a panic reaction. Perhaps this is true of propanolol and not prazosin?

I haven't been researching meds for a couple of years now, but this prazosin sounds promising for anxiety and possibly sleep; I've wondered for a long time why more norepinephrine-blocking agents weren't used for such purposes. Since drugs that increase catecholamines often increase wakefulness and could cause anxiety, it seems obvious that drugs that do the reverse might be useful anxiolytics or hypnotics. Anyway, I'm interested in trying prazosin, and, Scott, if I do get to, over the next few weeks, I'll be sure to let you know how it works :)
