Would the birth control pill help stabilize your mood?
Risperdal as needed is what keeps me functional. It's related to the AP I took as a teen to get me out of a really rough patch. The minor tranquilizers do reduce my anxiety, but they do it differently than the major tranquilizers. A smidge of Risperdal helps when my anxiety skyrockets, yet doesn't seem to make me feel stupid or sleepy.
I felt the IQ drop when I was on SSRI's. A psychologist once suggested I tried them with my son, who was having some understandable anxiety. I told him that I felt stupid on SSRI's and didn't want to do that to my son, and he agreed that they could have that effect, but added that my son had IQ points to spare. Needless to say, that was our one and only visit. Some suggestions from our local Parenting Center cleared up the problem without any drugs at all. It wasn't even cognitive behavior therapy. The parents and teachers in his life needed to do some things differently.
Ask your doctor about the AP's that are neither sedating nor activating. The middle of the road ones. They may not be right for you, but I've had a lot of success with small doses as needed.
Then CBT for the OCD. Have you read "Stop Obsessing"? I found it very helpful. A lot of people also like "Brain Lock".
