I wish I knew. After my initial brief response to Nardil, it took another three months before it returned.

Depression itself can prevent one from crying, especially if anergia and psychomotor retardation are evident. There is a genuine lack of energy to be able to cry. I could see how SSRIs could worsen this inability to cry by inducing amotivation and the numbing of emotions.

If doctors were capable of testing for responsivity to specific drugs, things would be much easier for the patient as there would be fewer drug failures and a reduction in the side effects to be tolerated.

Yes. It is a race to be won through patience.

My response to treatment has been more and more variable recently, with more worsenings than impovements. I would not use my case as a model for your mood illness, however. Each case represents a conglomeration of biology and psychology with a unique resulting phenotype. You and I might respond very differently to the same drug.
