Abscesses in the mouth are dangerous, because if they are in certain places, they can go straight to the brain. Thank goodness your mom is getting them taken care of.
As for the quality of her treatment.. you could research it online and maybe get an idea of whether what this dentist is doing is typical. The dental school idea is also superb. There, she will get the latest and greatest treatment, which will be done under the supervision of the best in the field (low-level doctors aren`t hired to be teachers - schools only hire the best).
