Hi LouS,
I've been on Nardil long term also, but not anywhere near 30 years. Actually, the medication probably would have been good for me 30 years ago when I was in my early 20s. I have been on Nardil for most of the past 12 years, since my first major depression hit at 40 years of age. Before that, I had a varying level of dysthymia and social anxiety since my teenage years. When the SSRIs first came out, I tried most of them; none did any good. Same with the SNRIs. I really wish my social anxiety would have been treated at a younger age. It affects all aspects of a person's life and can be debilitating.

I have been on 45+ different combinations of antidepressants and augmenters. Nardil with clonazepam was the only thing that has worked for my major atypical depression and social anxiety. I still have a residual level of dysthymia even though the Nardil knocks out my major depression. I would like to try adding a small dose of modafinil or methylphenidate, as this is really the only class of augmenters I haven't tried. I haven't found a doctor yet who is comfortable working with MAOIs and stimulants of any kind. What have you used as augmenters of Nardil over the years?

I know that Nardil has saved my life more than once. It isn't perfect, nothing is, but for me it is the only thing that has worked. Depression is a life threatening illness that causes tremendous pain. The pain and suffering is obvious when you look at the number of depressed people who suicide compared to other illnesses. Any illness that can overcome man's innate instinct for survival has to be treated seriously and often with serious medications. Nardil is one of the best.
Wishing you continued good health,
Jedi

> I just joined the board ... I've been on Nardil for almost 30 years with no major issues. Want to hear about other folks experiences. I think it's a drug that is often overlooked because of its side effects. Let's chat.
