Salad dressings and Nardil

Posted by proudfoot on August 27, 2010, at 20:29:36

OK, sorry to post another food question about MAOIs, but I'm just full of unresolved questions in that regard.

Was at the grocery store tonight and started to really look at the labels on the salad dressings. Lots of potential problems there if I'm reading things properly. SO, are the amounts of the forbidden substances small enough to get away with consuming these, or have you had problems with them?

I already posted about the presence of parmesan and romano cheeses in some vinaigrettes. However, other red flags I see are buttermilk in ranch dressings, MSG as a flavoring, and even the dreaded yeast extract in some.

And what about the vinegars used in some dressings? Some contain either white or red balsamic or red wine vinegars. Given that some balsamic vinegars are aged for years, will the small amount consumed pose a problem? I'm guessing the balsamic vinegars used commercially are not that old, as like red wines, the older the balsamic vinegar, the more expensive it becomes.

I thought I had read somewhere that one didn't need to really worry about dressings (soy sauce excepted, of course), but now I'm not so sure. Help!

Doug
