Meditation and Medication

Posted by tim123 on April 22, 2010, at 12:35:48

I began taking Zoloft (and sleeping meds for insomnia side-effects) about 15 yrs ago about the same time I started meditating (TM style) as part of the practice of a Eastern-influenced philosophy school that I'm involved in.

After a while I found that several minutes into my meditation, I would go "unconscious". To this day I don't know if this is actually sleep or some sort of "limbo" state (I'm sitting up either way), While it is relaxing and restful, it's certainly not Nirvana, Moksha, Samadhi or any other version of "enlightenment".

Curious to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar , and perhaps found a way to deal with the problem. I still believe in the aims of meditation and pursue the practice, Just wish I didn't "conk out".
