I was wondering why haven't scientist thought more outside the whole 'blocking reuptake' thing. couldn't there be some drug developed that helps the body naturally increase serotonin, NE, and DE between the synapse? I know there are some supplements that 'claim' to do this, although the effects don't seem to help more serious cases as it tends to not cross the blood brain barrier very well. Also we can't always look at purely the 'biological basis' since I've known (myself included) many people that had serious chronic depression that required medications and due to life changes, able to reduce or eliminate the need for their medications. Stress and/or unhappiness in its self causes a chemical imbalance in the body, and perhaps medications that block that response could be another way to mitigate symptoms.
