hi, i just back from my first meeting with a really awesome new pdoc - i was beginning to think finding someone pleasant to deal with *AND* knowledgeable about pharmacology was the four-leafed clover of the medical world.
anyway, i related my history - symptoms and what i'd been on - and he was happy to let me decide where to go from here. i like that flexibility, but sometimes don't think i should be given so much freedom. the consensus on my diagnosis is still OCD + social anxiety/phobia + depression, with possible early symptoms of inattentive ADD.
i decided to go with Prozac, because i was taken off it after 5 days due to insomnia, but it was the only SSRI that didn't leave me immediately foggy, etc. Moclobemide also came up due to its lack of s/e's, and the fact that i'd only ever gone as high as 300mg. his other suggestions were Effexor (though he didn't feel it differed in side-effects to the other SSRI's) and clomipramine (but i'm scared of the cognitive s/e's). whatever AD we try, we're going to add in a low-dose of Memantine due to the cognitive and anxiolytic gains i saw on it, and its synergistic action with AD's.
unfortunately - and i didn't want to tell him this - but my obsessions extend to meds, and i'm sitting here worrying i didn't make the right choice, what if i get bad side-effects etc. etc. etc.
i guess i was wondering if anyone had any advice about getting through the start-up phase, how long i should give the anxiety/insomnia, etc. and if Prozac seems like a good fit?
